Funeral service for S.O. "Sam" Ewing, 81, retired oil field driller were held from the First Methodist Church of Olney.

Samuel Oscar Ewing married Delia James on 4 December 1904 at Proctor, Texas in a double wedding ceremony. The other couple was Effie Holdifield and Charles Purvis. Samuel and Delia were the parents of seven children. Two children died in infancy and a son, Marcus died from an injury while practicing football.

In 1917, Mr. and Mrs. Ewing moved to Electra, Texas, while Samuel was working in the oil fields. They moved to Olney in 1930 from Wichita Falls, Texas. When Samuel Oscar Ewing retired, the couple moved from the oil lease into Olney and in 1962, moved to Fort Worth to live with their daughter, Mrs. Paul Mason.

Survivors: wife; daughter - Mrs. Mason of Fort Worth; three sons - Lionel of Newcastle, B.D. of San Antonio, Billy Jack of Frankford, IL; three sisters - Mrs. W.R. Kelly of Gustine, Mrs. D.A. Jones of Hurst, Mrs. Shirley Brown of Ranger; three brothers - Bill of Wellington, R.B. of Proctor, John A. of Fort Worth, 10 grandchildren.
