Ottie A. Garrett, 83, of Haywood/Glasgow died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Bowling Green Medical Center after an extended illness. He was the son of the late Millard Filmore Garrett and Birdie Cary Garrett. Ottie was a retired excavator and land developer. For nearly fifteen years he was the owner/operator of Ottie's Marathon Service Station and Towing Service in Toledo, OH. His hobby and passion at that time was drag racing, and he was very successful in the Ohio/Michigan racing circuit. In 1971 Ottie returned to Barren Co. and soon thereafter developed Haywood Acres Subdivision. As an entrepreneur Ottie operated a dozer and excavation service. Local residents remember Ottie as a good natured man who loved his work.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Grider Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Patsy (Clapp) Garrett of Glasgow; three children: Ottie A. Garrett Jr. (Irene), Alice Faye Talbott, and Ben N. Garrett (Sharon), all of Glasgow. Ottie had ten grand-children: Alex Talbott (Glasgow), Angela Cline (Glasgow), Phillip Garrett (deceased), Monte Garrett (IN), Dana Adams (KY), Matthew Garrett (Glasgow), Samantha Garrett (IN), Chad York (OH), Julia Meyers (WI), and Joshua Garrett (IN). He also had nine great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Archie Garrett and Marvin Garrett; three sisters: Jewell Waller, Mary Lou Likens and Viola Underwood.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday May 3rd at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial at Union No. 2 Cemetery.
Service will be conducted by Brother Kenneth Grizzle.
