Verna A. Bowen, 85, of Batavia, Ill., formerly of Moultrie, died March 10, 2009. Private graveside services were held Friday, March 13, at East Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, Ill. She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Ware County, Ga, the daughter of John Mathew and Margaret (nee Thrift) Aldridge. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, helping with blood drives. She also enjoyed crocheting. She is survived by her three children, Felix (Nancy) Bowen of Batavia, Randy (Maryellen) Bowen of Summertown, Tenn., and Janice (Brad) Cooper of Elgin, Ill.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Flara Bell Allman of Moultrie.
