William was the son of Edward Payson Luce and Mary E Hopkins. Edward was the brother of my great great grand father - Alonzo Danvers Luce - who married Cornelia Ann Price.

William was the husband of Ella Josephine Goodrich, they were married 12 Jun 1884.

He lived with his family in Danby New York through 1870, we find him living with his parents in Owego NY in the 1875 State Census but in the 1880 federal census he is in the very small unicorporated community of Leetonia (part of Elk Township in Pennsylvania) working as a butcher.

Soon after his marriage to Ella, they moved to Bayonne New Jersey where he worked for Standard Oil Company as a oil distributor.

Lived in Bayonne NJ in the 1900 - 1920 range. Moved to Owego around 1920, lived at 347 Main St and made that his home for the rest of his life.

William and Ella had no children that I know of (none listed in census data). 1889 New Jersey Birth Records gives a birth of a female to William George Luce and Ella J Goodrich - 30 April 1889 - but does not give a first name. The 1900 census indicates they had no children. The 1910 census indicates they had 1 child but none living. So the girl died between 1889 and 1900.

I believe Lottie Luce, whose very old stone is in his family plot, is their child. Her stone has a death year of 1890.

1860 census - Ithaca, NY (2 years old)
1870 census - Danby, PA (12 years old)
1880 census - Letonia PA, butcher
1900 census - Bayonne NJ, foreman Standard Oil
1910 census - Bayonne NJ, foreman Standard Oil
1920 Census - Owego NY, foreman Standard Oil
1930 Census - Owego NY, retired
