Harold Everett Morris, age 85, of Madison, formerly of Gotham and the Town of Clyde, died on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Evansville Manor in Evansville surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Harold was born on October 23, 1925 in Richland Center, the son of Bernie and Minnie (Wilson) Morris.

He attended Upper Horse Creek, Pulaski, and Akey one room grade schools and attended Muscoda High School.

Harold farmed with his family until he joined the Army in the fall of 1944. He served as a Combat Infantryman in the 99th Infantry Division, 393rd Company G.

He received numerous medals including: Sharpshooter, Good Conduct, Honorable Service, Bronze Star, three battle stars (Battle of the Bulge, Rhine River and The Ruhr Pocket) and also the Belgium Award.

He was given an Honorable Discharge in 1946, after losing his right leg in Germany.

After his discharge he took flying lessons at the Lone Rock airport fulfilling his childhood dream of receiving his Private Pilot's License.

Harold was united in marriage with Charlotte M. Neefe on November 7, 1947 in the Grandview Avenue Methodist Church in Dubuque, Iowa.

Most of their first ten years they lived in Gotham, and were blessed with three children: Carol, Sandra and Lyle.

He worked 17 years with the Local 314 Carpenter's Union in Madison. He had a great sense of humor and made friends easily.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends.

He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish in Montana, Wyoming, Texas, Florida and Canada in addition to Wisconsin.

He served as an officer and was a Life Member of the VFW Post 2267 and DAV Chapter 32 in Richland Center, where he received awards in the offices which he held.

Harold was also a member of the Lone Rock American Legion and the Richland Center 40et8 for a number of years. He was instrumental in getting the new Legion Hall built in Lone Rock.

In 1958, Harold and Charlotte purchased a farm in the Town of Clyde in Iowa County, where they worked together and raised their family. Harold served on the Clyde Town Board and was a storm spotter through the Richland County REACT Club.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Charlotte, three children: Carol (John) Kendall of Madison, Sandra (Richard) Francois of Tomahawk, Lyle (Laurie) Morris of Verona, 7 grandchildren: Bradley (Jennifer) Kendall of Cross Plains, Dawn (Jon) Strandberg of Alma Center, Dayna (Jason) Johnson of Hudson, Benjamin Morris of Verona, Kelli Morris of Madison, Cheri (Robert) Langmayer of Marshfield, James (Debra) Francois of Tomahawk.

Harold is further survived by 11 great grandchildren: Skyler, Devin, Jacob, Sophia, Annabelle, Jordan, Jared, Jace, Gretchen, Gracie, Samantha, 2 step great-grandchildren, Nikita, Zachary.

Harold is also survived by a half-brother: Howard (Bernita) Morris, one sister: Waneta (Darrell) Persinger, his Aunt Almeda Marti, two brothers in law: Robert Simpson and Leslie Neefe, two sisters in law: Dorothy Cox and Virginia Draves, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents: Bernie and Minnie Morris, his grandson Jason, his sister Lorraine, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and several nephews.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pratt Memorial Chapel in Richland Center.

Burial was held at the Button Cemetery in Gotham, with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Local Military Memorial Honors Unit.

Friends called at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 21, 2011 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M.

The family suggested that memorials in Harold's name be given to Hospice or the Richland County Veteran's Memorial.

The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service of Richland Center assisted the family with their arrangements.
