CLEARFIELD, Utah—Funeral services for Selma Augusta Polson Carpenter were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Mountain View LDS Chapel. Bishop Robert Stoddard officiated.

Interment was in the Fort Bridger Cemetery.

Mrs. Carpenter, 79, formerly of Mountain View, died Nov. 29 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Karin Carpenter.

She was born July 14, 1908 in Mountain View, the daughter of Henry and Anna Augusta Stenquist Polson. She married Joseph Peter Carpenter Dec. 29, 1926 in Evanston.

The marriage was solemnized July 1, 1952 in the Logan LDS temple. He died Feb. 25, 1974.

She lived most of her life in Robertson and Mountain View and the past six years with her son in Clearfield.

She was a member of the LDS church where she served as Sunday school secretary for 11 ½ years, relief society secretary for 21 years and a counselor and president. She was a primary secretary for eight years.

She was a lifelong member of the Happy Hour Homemakers Club and Neighbors of Woodcraft.

She was valedictorian of the graduating class of 1926 from Mountain View High School and attended the University of Wyoming. She served on the election board in Robertson for 30 year and was assistant clerk in the Mountain View post office for 15 years.

She and her husband had the mail run from Robertson to Fort Bridger for eight years.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marion (Anna Lou) Thompson of Lander and four sons, Duane Carpenter of Evanston, Derrill Carpenter of Mountain View, Don Carpenter of Rock Springs and Gary Carpenter of Clearfield.

Also surviving is one sister, Myrtle Carpenter of Ogden, Utah, 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four grandchildren.
