Joan A. "Jodie" Gilbert, Ponca City resident, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at her residence. She was 76. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

The funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Larry B. Metzger, pastor, officiating.

Joan was born in Ponca City to Walter Franklin and Irene F. (Davis) Albers. She attended public schools in Ponca City and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1949. On August 10, 1953 she married Dr. John Berry Gilbert in Oklahoma City. She worked for Conoco Oil Company in Oklahoma City at the time of her marriage.

Joan and Dr. Gilbert moved to Ponca City where she was a homemaker. Throughout her 76 years her family, friends and faith were most important to her. She regularly volunteered for the First Christian Church's Friendship Feast, co-chaired the first Women's Division of the United Way, worked with the American Cancer Society and the Lung Association through the United Way. She was a Cub Scout Leader, a member of the PEO, the Ponca City Country Club and Bridge Club. Joan was loved by all who knew her for her sense of fun, generosity and outgoing nature. She was a wonderful cook and was especially known for her delicious pies and cakes. She cherished holidays and frequent family get-togethers with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, John P. Gilbert and his wife Laurel of Edmond, OK, Tim B. Gilbert, M.D. and his wife Kathy of Ponca City and James B. Gilbert of Fort Pierce, Florida, and one daughter, Susan J. Taffoni and her husband Joe of Medford, NJ, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren one sister Phyllis Mingo of Salt Lake City, UT, one brother-in -law Warren Adler of Ponca City and sister-in - law Norma Albers of Wichita, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John B. Gilbert, one sister Maudine Adler and one brother Gale Albers.. (delete one period)
