Isaac emigrated to the US to join his brother Thomas in 1876 becoming a Naturalised Citizen in 1886. He settled in Philadelphia where he married first in about 1885 Mary Harper, who died on the 1st July 1900 and secondly on the 3rd April 1902 a widow named Sidney Harriott who survived him.
With Mary, Isaac had 5 children;
Helen Harper Ambrose (later Piper) born April 1887, died September 1965 in Dade, Florida.
Rutherford Ambrose born 28th July 1888.
Anna Ambrose born 26th August 1890, died August 1974 in Dade, Florida.
Alexander Harper Ambrose born November 1895, died 31st May 1926 having never recovered from wounds and shell shock sustained in the First World War.
David who died of cholera infanticum on the 22nd July 1886 aged 2 months
Isaac worked as a stairbuilder in Philadelphia for many years and it was in his workshop that he collapsed suddenly and died of heart failure. His passing was reported at length in the Druid newspaper and was described as "A great loss to Philadelphia."
Isaac and Sidney were very active in the Welsh society and in the church, with Isaac having taught in the Sunday School for many years.
