PFC. ROBERT S. MUNN

Graveside services for Pfc. Robert S. Munn, 22, who was killed in action at Massa, Italy, April 14, 1945, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the New Tacoma Cemetery, the Rev. Paul B. Van Horn officiating. Burial will be directed by Buckley-King.

Munn, born in Olympia, moved to Tacoma as a child and was graduated from Fern Hill, graduated Stewart junior high and Lincoln high school. While a junior in dairy manufacturing at Washington State college he joined the enlisted Army reserve in 1942 and was called into service in March 1943 at Fort Lewis.

After training at Camp Callan, Calif., Munn went to Africa in the fall of 1943. He was a member of the 435th anti-aircraft artillery commanded by Col. Niel (sic) R. McKay of Olympia. In the Anzio campaign the 435th captured Pisa and placed the United States flag on the Tower of Pisa. The company then went to Rome where it became the 473rd infantry in January, 1945. After 30 days' training, the unit went into action.

Munn, a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Munn; a brother, Allen Pickett Munn, and two sisters; Mary Patricia and Sallie (sic) Janet, all of the family home at 9527 East E. Street.
