Ben Carlson, 85, a pioneer farmer of the Blooming Grove community, died at his home in Iosco township, Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock. Death was due to complications of old age. Private funeral services for the family will be held Friday forenoon at 10:30 at the Peterson Funeral chapel, and at 2 p.m. from the North Waseca Lutheran church of which Mr. Carlson was a lifetime member. The Rev. Charles Akre will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Carl Benhart Carlson was born in Iosco township, Waseca county, September 10, 1871, the oldest son of the late O. M. and Beata (Lanning) Carlson. He was educated in the rural schools. On Sept. 20, 1899, he was united in marriage with Regina Hagen, youngest daughter of Torgus and Synneva Hagen, at the North Waseca Lutheran church. The couple, who farmed in Blooming Grove until his retirement in 1935, when they moved to Iosco, celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on Sept. 20, 1949. Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Reuben (Lillian) Bagne of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Melvin (Blanche) Thoreson of Waseca. Five sisters and four brothers also survive. They are Mrs. Anna Larson, Waseca; John M. Carlson, Sacred Heart, Minn.; Mrs. Hannah Hoyem, Fargo, N.D.; Mrs. Minnie Schuch, Long Beach, Cal.; Adolph Carlson of Minneapolis; Ferdinand Carlson, Waterville; Mrs. Lloyd (Bernice) Chambers and Vernon Carlson, Waseca.
