Mrs. Amelia Hughes Chap-
man, 79, 201 Crestwood Drive,
died this morning in a Selma
hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services will be
held at 3:00 o'clock Thursday
afternoon at Lawrence Chapel
with the Rev. Ray McCullough,
pastor of the First Christian
Church, officiating. Burial
will be in New Live Oak Cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. W.E. Pearson of Selma; two
sons, Ford Harrison of West
Palm Beach, Fla., and John A.
Dowthitt of Edwardsville, Ill.;
two sisters, Mrs. Joe Till of
McWilliams and Mrs. Tom Byrd of
Megarel; two brothers, Jesse
Hughes of McCullough and George
Hughes of Atmore; several step-
children; ten grandchildren,
14 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Chapman was a member of
the Dallas County Chapter 184
of the Eastern Star. She was a
native of Wilcox County and had
lived in Selma most of her life.
She had returned to Selma to
make her home about two years ago
after having lived in Florida for
15 years.
Pallbearers for the services will
be Will McDowell, Bill Portwood,
Edwin Pearson, Reuben Hyde, Raymond
Chandler and Reginald V. Hudson.
