He was the youngest of the children (four sons and eight daughters) of Ira Peake and Martha Morgan. He married Charlotte Amelia Prall (whose parents may have been from Canada) on Nov. 23, 1859 at Hudson, Columbia County, New York. He and his bride lived in Manhattan where he MAY have owned a drug store. They had a daughter Katie whose eventual husband was John W. Wilson of Brooklyn. (Katherine, daughter of the late John Peake married at Hudson to John W. Wilson of Brooklyn on January 29, 1883 by the Rev. J. C. Tebbets. Announcement in the "New York Herald" on January 31, 1883.)

John Peake died in 1867 when Katie was very young and his surviving wife and child went to live with John's older sisters Elizabeth and Sophia Peake who ran a well-known and well-regarded girls' school in Hudson, New York. Katie was about 14 years old when her mother died and she continued to live with her aunts until her marriage.
