JACOB PEE AN AGED CITIZEN DIES IN EAST PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP
Jacob Pee, a worthy and respected citizen, died in his home on January 4, 1902. The deceased was born near where he died on the 8th of July, 1824, thus making the measure of his life 77 years, 5 months and 26 days. On reaching manhood or possibly at the of 18, he choose for his occupation of Millwrighting and soon attained the ability that every man cannot possess. Even today most of the water power mills throughout a large section of this country were erected by him as master mechanic, or assisted in their construction though many of them bear the marks of old age. Later on, however, his mechanical genius covered carpentering in general, and be was classed among our best framers and builders. On January 13, 1852 he was united in marriage to Sarah Lauderbaugh. Several childern were born to this union and for more than forty-eight years they lived at their quiet home, sharing each others joys and overcoming the difficulties of this natural life. On the 24th, of April, 1900, the mother was stricken down, and the once bright and cheerful home had but two occupants, father and daughter, Mollie. In this death the last link in the parental home is severed, while sorrow covers the scene. His last illness was a complication of diseases, incident to old age, and his sufferings cannot be told. Religiously he was a Lutheran, being a member of the Mt. Pleasant congregation upwards of thirty years. Mild in politics, but always advocating a Republican form of government. Socially he was held in high esteem for his generous and kind treatment, always ready to help bear the burdens of his fellowman. Three sisters and one brother survive the departed; Elizabeth, wife of Stephen Mellott, of Maryland; Lydia, widow of William Clevenger, of Crystal Spring; Sarah, widow of the late A. K. Bottenfield, and Francis W. Pee, of Rays Hill. Funeral services were held on Monday at Mr. Pleasant where a large crowd of people wended their way over the icy roads to pay tribute to the departed. The sermon was preach by Rev. W. G. Slifer, from 1st Corinthians 15th chapter and 57th verse,-"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
