William Paschall was the son of Coleman Paschal and Sarah Street. His siblings Rachel Paschal Peters and Thomas Paschal are buried in this cemetery as well. The family lived in Beardstown, Illinois. William, known as "Old Grub" to his brothers, was married first to Emilin Dunn (1845-72) and then, after her death, to Emilin's sister Mary Ann Dunn (1843-1930).

"Old Grub" is mentioned numerous times in the Civil War letters of his brothers Newton & Tommy which can be found in the book From Beardstown to Andersonville.
