S.B. Nickels Dies from Injuries in Highway Accident
Funeral Services at Hampton Methodist Church Sunday 2:30
S.B. Nickels, 79, passed away at the Aurora hospital, Friday, April 8th, from injuries received in an accident on highway 34 at the east edge of Hampton when his car was struck by a semi-trailer trucking van. Saturday, April 2 at 10:30a.m.. The accident occurred only a few blocks from the Nickels residence. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Hampton, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Dwayne Larkins officiating. Silas Berton Nickels, son of James and Lizzie Nickels was born near Lexington, Ind., March 27, 1870, and passed from this life in the Aurora hospital, April 8, 1949, at the age of 79 years and 1day. He came to Humansville, Mo., with his parents when, he was nine years old. Here he grew to manhood. Mr. Nickels became a member of the Christian church at Humansville, Mo. He later joined the Methodist church in Hampton. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge fat at least 38 years. He was united in marriage to Margaret Fox of Humansville, Mo., on March 8, 1890. To this union two children were born. In 1908 he and his family came to Nebraska, settling near Hampton. He resided in and near here for 41 years. Many learned to know and respect his judgment and integrity. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Margaret, of Hampton; one son, Marion, of Burbank, Cal., one daughter, Mrs. Stella Petersen of Gibbon; five grandsons and one great, granddaughter; one brother, George Nickels of Bradshaw; one sister, Mrs. Joe Nottingham, Dayton, Tex.; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Interment was in the Hampton cemetery.
