Bevah E. Starr, 101, longtime Brush resident, passed away early Thursday, May 4, 2011, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. She was born August 13, 1909, in Genoa, CO, to Clarence & Emma Burrous. The Burrous family moved to Brush when Bevah was 2 years old.

Bevah graduated from Brush High School in 1928. On June 16, 1929, she married Clare Starr in Loveland. Prior to retirement, the Starr family owned & operated a Starr's Cleaners in downtown Brush for 42 years. They were very active sports fans of Brush High School. During state tournaments, they would often close the shop early in order to get to Denver for a Brush game. They were long time season ticket holders for the Air Force & CU football games, and Bevah continued to go to Denver Bronco and CU games after Clare's death in 1971, attending her last game at age 94. She enjoyed traveling, going all over the United Sates and Europe to visit family and see new sights. Her grandchildren were also very important to her and she attended many of their events from Pennsylvania to Arizona to Denver over the years.

Bevah was a member of PEO Chapter T, American Red Cross Gray Ladies, EMCH Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Hi-Ho Bridge Club, Bunker Hill Bridge Club, Brush Music Club, and the Brush United Methodist Church. She also served as a volunteer at Eben Ezer and Sunset Manor for many years and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include her daughter, Eloise Joppa of Brush; 3 grandchildren, Edie Walker of Brush, the Rev. Jan Mills of Klingerstown, PA, and Jack (Felice) Cohen-Joppa of Tucson, AZ; 8 great grandchildren, Stacey (Gene) Jones, Julie (Dan) Lierman, Brian Mills, Katy (Jim) Main, Charley Mills (Craig Chu), Rachel (Robb) Olson, Cassidy Cohen-Joppa, and Emma Cohen-Joppa; 8 great – great grandchildren, Theresa (Matt) Marre, Patrick and Chloe Jones, Teagan and Tyler Lierman, Caitlin Mills, Tatum Main, Isabella Olson, and over 50 foster great-great grandchildren; 5 nephews, 6 nieces, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Jack Starr, and sister-in-law, Sue Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clare, a sister Maudie Fries, a Brother Lloyd "Bud" Burrous, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Brush United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center or to the charity of the donor's choice all c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuary.
