    Richard Dale Cook, 71, of Newark, died Tuesday November 19, 2002 at his home.
    Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday November 22 at the Newark Lutheran Church with Rev. Charles Sampson officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Burial of cremains will be at the West Lisbon Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 4-8 PM on Thursday at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home, Ltd., 102 S. Johnson St., Newark, IL. 60541-0623, phone (815)695-5131.
    Richard was born December 15, 1930 in Newark to George Burton Cook and Mervin Lucille (Thompson) Cook. He married Ellen Marie (Wicks) June 20, 1953. She died February 25, 1987. He was a graduate of Newark High School in 1947. He attended Northwestern University and earned a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture from the University of Illinois in 1953. He farmed in Newark for 6 years and then completed his Masters in Botany in 1961. He was retired from School District #218 where he taught for 30 years. He moved back to Newark "homestead" in 1992. He was a member of the Fern Dell Historic Society and Curator of the Newark Blacksmith Shop. He was also a member of the Newark Lutheran Church, the Charles B. Phillips Library Historic Club and had served as Secretary for the Millington - Newark Cemetery Association for 9 years.
    He is survived by his daughter, Melody (Jonathan) Masters of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his son, Kevin (Amy) Cook of Elgin; three grandchildren, Justin Burdick of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Erin Dunn of Overland Park, Kansas and Jaime Lee Cook of Elgin; one great-granddaughter, Katy Dunn of Overland Park, Kansas; and one brother, Russell Cook of Chicago, IL.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen Marie Cook; and one brother, Dwight Cook.
    Pallbearers will be Lance Olson, Justin Burdick, Michael Dunn, Jonathan Masters and Jodi Burry.
    Memorials may be directed to the family of the Charles B. Phillips Library in Newark.
