Lela D. Powell born November 22, 1907, died of a sudden illness on Saturday, February 25, 2006. She had been a resident at Manchester House, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lela D. was born in Celeste, Texas, to William S. and Elizabeth Richey. Lela is the last survivor of her 12 siblings. She was predeceased by her first husband, Morgan David Brantley, from which union was born, Tommy Joyce Brantley Palmer. Her second husband, Richard M. Mason, predeceased her in 1947. She managed Mason Truck Lines following his death. P.G. Lowell predeceased her and during his lifetime, they worked together in the Lowell Tire Company.

She is survived by Tommy Joyce Palmer, her husband, Harry R. Palmer, Jr., their three daughters and husbands, Denise Palmer and James Hollingsworth; Marta Joyce and Richard Ernest Maril; Lisa Annette and John William Haslett. Her great-grandchildren, Robert Thomas Maril, Robin Suzanne Maril and Lindsay Palmer Reagan.

She was affectionately called Nana by her grandchildren. Lela D. belonged to Covenant Presbyterian Church and various social groups including AARP, the En Amie Book Club, and Women's Dinner Club. She enjoyed working into her 90' s, was a people person who liked people and, in turn, was liked by people. She was well loved by her family who will miss her dearly. Her friends also will feel her loss. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2006, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel with Dr. Argus Hamilton, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow alongside her parents in the Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
