Dorothy Jean Kienlen passed away December 29, 1991 in Norman. Born in Oklahoma City, December 6, 1923 to Harlan and Corinne Rush. She was educated in the Oklahoma City Public School System graduating from Classen High School in 1941 with academic and theatre arts honors. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was very active in the drama and speech department.

During World War II she worked at Tinker Air Force Base. She married Kenneth A. Kienlen on February 10, 1944 in Oklahoma City. She followed her husband through a 25-year military career in the U.S. Air Force, adding much strength and support to her husband and family. After Ken's retirement in 1966, they settled in Norman where Dottie again became active in the drama department at Oklahoma University, playing several seasons of Southwest Repertoire Theatre. She co-operated a theatre arts school for children in Norman and was a founder of the Norman Community Playhouse and remained active in the theatre until 1984. In 1985 Ken and Dottie traveled extensively including Dottie's favorite destination, the Amphitheatre of Epidaurus in Greece. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and the Saint Stephens United Methodist Church of Norman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and first son, Kenneth Rush Kienlen. Survivors include her husband, Ken; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cindy; daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Richard Sawkins; four grandchildren, Tony and Steven Kienlen and Roger and Kate Sawkins. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 1992 at Rose Hill Mausoleum Chapel at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City.
