Curtis G. Burtness, 78, of 1004 N. Quincy, Mason City, Iowa died Saturday April 30, 2011 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa after fighting a long battle with heart disease.

Memorial services will be 1:00p.m. Tuesday May 3, 2011at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, Iowa with Pastor Bruce Ouverson of Vineyard Community Church, Mason City officiating. Family will greet friends one hour before the service on Tuesday. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City with full military honors provided by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Curtis was born Nov. 21, 1932 in Northwood, Iowa the son of Gerald and Anna (Jenkins) Burtness. He attended school in Northwood and Mason City. He married Joan Jackson March 31, 1959 in Austin, Minnesota. In 1951 He entered the United States Army serving during the Korean War and was presented the Silver Star and Presidential Unit Citation. He retired from the United States Army in 1974.

Following the service moved back to Mason City, Iowa attended N.I.A.C.C.. He worked for Andrews Concrete and Randall Transit.

Curtis enjoyed driving cars back from the car auctions, collecting and attending various auctions. He was known for his great sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering, helping family and friends and hanging out at Smitty's Auto.. He was known for his generosity and because of that he was a donor to the Iowa Donor Program.

He was lifetime member of Mason City V.F.W. and former member of Edward Tosel Post #110, Manly, Iowa

Curtis is survived by his two daughters Margie Bartholomew, Mason City, Iowa and her significant other Michael Arispe and his two children Jeremy and Alicia; Marcie Porterfield and her husband Brad, Manly, Iowa; step-son Bill Perkins and his family, Arkansas; four grandchildren Alicia Funk and her husband Robert, Timothy Curtis Bartholomew, Christopher Curtis Thompson and Cory Doland; step grandchildren Alyssa and Zachary Porterfield; one great-grandson Jaiden Thompson; one sister Marsha Songer, Montclair, California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Anna Burtness; wife Joan; son Randy and two sisters Betty Covert and Sharon Watley.
