Rae Chapman was the only daughter of Cleveland Indians baseball player Ray Chapman, and his wife, Katie. Born after her father's death, she moved with her mother to Los Angeles, California, when her mother married businessman J. F. McMahon. Rae continued to live with her step-father after her mother committed suicide in 1928. She died from the the measles in 1929. Her body was taken back to Cleveland for burial, where she was laid to rest next to her mother.
