Larry Dean Modesitt, 58

Larry Dean Modesitt, 58, of Olney, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005, at his residence.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services with full military rites were at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home with Reverend Father Jerry Wirth officiating.

Mr. Modesitt was born on November 30, 1946, in Beech Grove, Ind., the son of Chester and Bettijane (Smith) Modesitt. He married Vickie Seibert on January 13, 1968, in Evansville, Ind. She survives.

In 1976, he owned and operated Burger Chef in Olney and Mt. Carmel and Skipper's Galley. In 1980, he started Modesitt Trucking Company and in 1986, he started Olney Truck Parts, L&V Rentals and Modern Personnel Services.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Olney Elks #926, where he was a past Exalted Ruler, Petroleum Club, the former Olney Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, AMVETS, Richland County Development Corporation, Richland Country Club, County Line Rod & Gun Club, Bass Masters and Community Betterment Committee. He was co-founder of the city Christmas lights display, coordinated local Special Olympics and served on the board of directors at First National Bank in Olney.

Mr. Modesitt is survived by his wife, Vickie Modesitt, of Olney; a daughter, Jennifer Dillard and her husband, Doug, of Olney; a son, Jason Modesitt, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; mother, Bettijane Horton, of Evansville, Ind.; stepfather, Lee Horton and his wife, Judy, of Evansville, Ind.; four brothers, Fritz Modesitt and his wife, Kathy, of Terre Haute, Ind., Steve Modesitt and his wife, Alyson, of Evansville, Ind., Glenn Modesitt and his wife, Karen, of Evansville, Ind., and Brian Horton and his wife, Caye, of Greenville, Ind.; two sisters, Karen Anderson and her husband, Rick, of Smyrna, Ga., and Sonya Kirwer and her husband, Chris, of Evansville, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Lauren and Allison Dillard.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, David Horton.
