Walter Cable, 53, NuKen businessman

Walter L. Cable, 53, owner of Cable Trailer Sales, Greensburg Road, New Kensington, died at 1:50 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 25, 1968) in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness.

He was a brother-in-law of the Rev. Theodore H. Althof, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, New Kensington.
A resident of 350 Fourth Ave., New Kensington , Mr. Cable was born in the city Dec. 16. 1914, to Floyd E. and Mable Hemphill Cable of Greensburg Road, New Kensington.

A lifelong resident of the city, he was one of the newer and most active members of New Kensington Kiwanis Club. He took a keen interest in Kiwanis Club projects sponsored for the organization's charitable and community activities.

Despite failing health, he served as chairman of the club's pancake jamboree in 1966 and chairman of the inter-Club committee last year.

Before assuming the ownership of Cable Trailer Sales, he owned Cable Transportation Lines in North Side, Pittsburgh.

Mr. Cable was a member of First Lutheran Church, New Kensington, and a former member of Teamsters Local 249.

Besides his parents he leaves his widow, Mrs. Marion Sutter Cable; three sons: Derwood of Inglewood, Calif.; Norman T. of New Kensington and Andrew at home; a daughter, Mrs. Perry (Paula) Bond of Inglewood, Calif.: two brothers: Floyd E. of Greensburg Road, New Kensington, and Lawrence of Apollo: two sisters: Mrs. Vernon (Dorothy) Fish of Murrysville and Mrs. Karl (Alberta) Finger of Newark, Del., and four grandchildren.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in Ross G. Walker Funeral Home, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. His brother-in-law, the Rev. Theodore H. Althof, pastor of First Lutheran Church, New Kensington, will oficiate, assisted by the Rev. Ronald Mayhle, a nephew, pastor of Wesleyan Methodist Church, New Bethlehem. Burial will be in Plum Creek Cemetery. Plum.

Persons desiring may contribute to the Abiding Memorial Fund of First Lutheran Church, New Kensington, in memory of Mr. Cable.
