First Lady of South Korea. Born in Okcheon County, she married her husband in 1950 when he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the South Korean Army. As First Lady of the Republic of Korea, she served from December 17, 1963, when her husband took over as President, until her death. She was killed in an assassination attempt on her husband, President and former South Korean Army General Park Chung-hee, during a Korean Liberation Day ceremony at the Seoul National Theater. Her children include Korean politician Park Geun-hye (who served as First Lady after her mother's death and who was the 11th President of South Korea), plus daughter Park Seo-yeong and son Park Ji-man.
