After Clara returned from Germany she resided in New York City where she had a brilliant career in society and as a concert pianist. She married Charles Randolph Thomas on December 29, 1915 in St. Thomas' Church.
She was the mother of Charles Randolph Thomas Jr. and Francis Pasteur Thomas II. Clara died a few weeks after the birth of Francis, who at birth was given the name William McNeill Thomas, it was later changed to Francis.
