William Frederick was born in Konigsberg in Der Neumark, Prussia. His parents brought him to America when he was just four years old. At age 18 he came to California by wagon train. (1862)

William F. Darge, 80 years of age, died this morning at his home on Cleveland avenue.
He was a native of Prussia where he was born May 6, 1844.
He is survived by three sons, J. F. Darge of Chico, George R. of Weed and Charles of Weed; four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Carter of San Francisco, Mrs. Emma Sharkey of Oakland, Mrs. Mary Pasquetti of Lincoln and Mrs. Josie Gemilla of Chico; and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Kidwell of Eugene, Ore.; Mrs. Louise Lemm of Redding, Mrs. Mary Scheer and Mrs. Minnie Dunscomb of Chico.
Deceased has long resided in this community where by his sterling character he has made a host of friends who will grieve at his passing.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Fetters & Williams chapel, the Rev. W. L. Mellinger officiating.
Interment will be made in the Chico cemetery.
