Retha Matney Talley, known to many as "Shorty", born September 11, 1935, passed away on April 21, 2020, at her residence. Retha moved from Seymour, MO, to Olathe as a child. Retha married Floyd Talley, known to many as "Strut", on July 20th,1957, and started their lives together in Olathe where they raised their loving family.

In the early 60's, Shorty nudged Strut'n Floyd R. to pick their family home on South Chestnut. This home created many treasured memories and lasting friendships with the Lickteigs, Bonjours, Pfeiffers, Hamblins, Bacons and Spencer's.

Retha was a loving wife and mother. She was very active as a school room mother and team mom for her 3 children and opened her home as a safe haven to other local teens while raising her own children. It was not uncommon for her to be making breakfast for her kids and all their friends.

Later in her life, Retha was an active volunteer in the Olathe School District. She volunteered for 10 years at Green Springs and Ravenwood Elementary Schools where she received the President's Volunteer Service Award.

Retha is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Talley, parents, Homer and Mattie (Matney) Talley and infant brother, Samuel Matney. She is survived by daughter, Teresa Talley (Bob Ritter) and sons, Darrel Talley and his wife Lori and Travis Talley and his wife Amy. Five grandchildren, Sam, Dakota, Megan, Abby and Amelia; and 3 great-grandchildren Bentllie, Levi, and Lilly. Graveside service officiated by, Chaplain Ricky Ward Beach will be 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens 13901 South Black Bob Road Olathe, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Green Springs Elementary Reading Intervention Program, which supports young students in the Olathe areas learning to read. A "Celebration of Life" in honor of Retha Talley is being planned for a later date. After the stay at home order has been lifted.
