MENOMINEE, Ill. -- Mrs. Edwin (Evelyn C. "Evie" Budden) Handfelt, 77, of Menominee, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, Menominee, with the Rev. Michael Barry and the Rev. Ted Lewandowsk officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish and St. Ann's Society rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. today.
Evie was born on April 9, 1934, in Menominee Township of Jo Daviess County, daughter of Joseph and Irene (Hilby) Budden. She was a graduate of St. Clara Academy at Sinsinawa, class of 1952.
She married Edwin H. "Ed" Handfelt on Aug. 20, 1960, at Nativity BVM Church.
Evie was formerly employed at the Molo Oil Co., the Galena Senior Citizens Center-Meals on Wheels, St. Dominic Villa and for the Sinsinawa Dominicans. She also was the Menominee news reporter for the Galena Gazette and the Tri-County Press for many years.
She was a member of Nativity BVM Parish, St. Ann's Society, the Mother's Club and the Menominee-Dunleith Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She also was a member of several different card clubs for more than 50 years and served as an election judge for Menominee Township.
Evie loved nothing better than a good game of euchre.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Edwin H. "Ed" Handfelt; a son, John (Shawn) Handfelt, of Fennimore, Wis.; a daughter, Mary Jo (Alan) Pauls, of Waunakee, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Ben, Nicole, Derek and McKenna Handfelt, Danielle Marshall-Pauls, Alana Marie, Kira Ann, Asa Alexander and Tessa Rae Pauls; two sisters, Alverna Ramaker, of Hazel Green, Wis., and Wilma Budden, of Menominee; two brothers, Eldon Budden and Donald (Irene) Budden, both of Menominee; a sister-in-law, Verena Handfelt, of Menominee; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eloyse Runde; two brothers-in-law, Dick Runde and Leo Ramaker; and in-laws, Alvitus (Lucille) Handfelt and Magdalen (Harry) Delaney.
