A few years later Matt married Mariah's sister Etta Julia Brown with the blessing of her parents, who loved and respected Matt.
5. Sanford McClendon Brown: b 1873 Panola County, Texas - d 1934 Louisiana. Sanford Brown and Mattie Ana Luker married 1896 in Texas. Sanford's occupation was Oilfield Worker. They had one child who died young. Their other children: James, Ida, Ollie, and Diamond Jewel Brown. Sanford and Mattie Luker Brown are at rest in Sardis Cemetery, Rapides Parish, Louisiana.

7. ETTA JULIA BROWN: b 1876 Panola County, Texas - d 1913 Harrison County, Texas. Etta Julia Brown, age 15, married MATTHEW LAFAYETTE THOMAS (CALLED MATT), age 24, a young farmer. She died from chronic asthma at age 38. Etta Brown was laid to rest in Walnut Creek Cemetery, Diana, Upshur County, Texas. Matt was devastated at the loss of his dear wife. He was left with their six children to care for. The children were all devoted to family with Christian values and remained very close to their father through his lifetime.
Matt Thomas passed away from malaria in 1933. Matt Thomas is at rest in Centerview Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas, where four of their six children are buried. Bessie Mattie (Thomas) Smith is at rest by her husband, near her mother 's grave, in Walnut Creek Cemetery.
