Bernice A. Carnahan, 97, of Millersburg, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2011.

She was born Jan. 21, 1914, to Lester and Grace (Guthrie) Kaser, and married Leander "Neal" Carnahan on June 6, 1936. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1989.

She had worked for Domestic Film/Shelter-Rite for many years. While there she and her co-workers welded the first Geodesic Dome for the New York World's Fair. In 1970, at the age of 56, Bernice changed careers. She began nursing at Castle Nursing Homes and subsequently received her nursing license in 1971. She truly loved caring for others and never considered it work. She retired at the age of 88 and enjoyed spending time with her family. Bernice enjoyed traveling, parasailing, jet ski rides, family outings, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are daughters, Cheryl (Thomas) Bird of Millersburg and Vicki (Roman) Rollins of Carefree, Ariz.; grandchildren, Robyn (Bird) and Troy Hahn, Andrea (Bird) and Michael Murray, Lindsey (Bird) and Rodney Taylor, Megan (Bird) and J. Ross Dickens, Christopher and Christina Johnson, Trey and LeAnn Johnson, Kirk and Sarah Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Baylee, Carter and Grady Hahn, Briggs Murray, Trae, Triston, Tanner, Trevin, and Trenton Johnson, Conner and Ainsley Johnson, Landon and Turner Johnson; and her dear friend, Eileen Berner.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bernard; an infant son, Larry; and a granddaughter, Jennifer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jennifer (Bird) Duff Memorial Scholarship at the Holmes County Education Foundation, 114 N. Clay St., Millersburg 44654.

Friends may call Friday, May 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.

Services will be Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Millersburg, with pastor Burnetta Armour officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
