PETER WILLIAM SPECHT, 74, retired Galena grocer, passed away from a heart attack at 7:05 o'clock Friday evening at his home at 201 Jackson Street, Seminary Hill, Galena. His sudden passing comes as a shock to his family and friends.

Peter William Specht was born in Galena, Illinois on May 19, 1873, the son of Peter and Christina (Hess) Specht. He attended the Lutheran Parochial School and was a faithful member of St. Mathews Lutheran church.

On May 30, 1894, he was united in marriage to Sophie Allen of Galena. The ceremony was performed at St. Mathews Lutheran church by Rev. August Klindworth. Mr. And Mrs. Specht celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1944.

They were the parents of five children who survive: Mrs. Earl (Hattie) Alexander of Tampa, Florida, May Specht, at home in Galena, Allen Specht of Galena, Illinois, Mrs. Charles (Rocile) Youngren of Rockford, Illinois, Helen Specht of St. Petersburg, Florida, Also surviving are two grandchildren and one great grandchild: Marlo Specht of Elizabeth, Illinois and Leslie Allen Specht Mary Lou Youngren of Rockford, Illinois Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Louise Sincock of Galena, Mrs. Elizabeth Frazer of Oshkosh, Wisconsin,

Mr. Specht was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away on January 27, 1946, his parents, one brother, and two sisters.

Mr. Specht resided in Galena all his life. As a young man, he learned the grocery business working for the H.C. Kuchemann and the John J. Genz Groceries. In 1921, with his son-in-law E.H. Alexander, he purchased the Genz Grocery Store, which he continued to operate as the Specht and Alexander Grocery for 16 years. He retired from active business in 1937. By serving the public faithfully for so many years, Mr. Specht was favorably and widely known. He was a devoted father with his primary interests being in his home and family.

Mr. Specht will be removed from the Nash Funeral Home to his home on Jackson Street, where friends may call after 7:30 this evening. The funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon from the home at 2:00 o'clock to St Mathews Lutheran church at 2:30. Rev. T.J.F. Pagels, pastor of St. Mathews, will officiate the funeral and burial services. Burial will be made in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetary, Galena.
