Eddie Ritz was born on Sunday, November 1, 1914, in Remsen, IA, the son of John and Margaret (Loutsch) Ritz.

On Monday, November 8, 1937, Eddie married Helen Tentinger in Sioux City, IA. Eddie and Helen met through friends of the families.

Eddie grew up in Remsen and graduated from Remsen St. Mary's HS in 1932.

After HS graduation, Eddie worked in his father's blacksmith shop and farmed his father's land in Remsen. After his dad sold the farm, Eddie and family moved to Minnesota (Dundee, then Worthington) and farmed there.

Then he and his family moved to Sioux City, and Eddie bought and operated a gas station in Greenville. Eventually he closed the station and went to work at Braunger Food Service in Sioux City for 7 years until he got sick and died.

For the last 12 years of his life, Eddie and his family lived at 3406 Military Road, Sioux City. They had lots of chickens, which they butchered and sold. They also had many fruit trees and also sold nightcrawlers.

Eddie enjoyed fishing with his family.

Late in his life, Eddie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City and the Holy Name Society.

Eddie and Helen had 2 sons and 4 daughters: Larry, Karen, Margy, Helen, Ronn, and Mary. Helen and Mary died at birth.

Eddie, 42 years old, died of kidney failure on Wednesday, September 4, 1957, in a Sioux City hospital; he had been seriously ill for the previous 2 weeks. His wake, including a rosary at 8:00 p.m., was held at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen on September 6. Following a 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 7 funeral Mass at Remsen St. Mary's Catholic Church, he was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen.
