STEWARTVILLE -- The funeral for Emily Gretchen Bettin will be 1 p.m. Friday at Griffin Funeral Home in Stewartville with the Rev. Jack Haddorf of the United Methodist Church in Stewartville officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.
Mrs. Bettin, 91, of Stewartville, a former farm homemaker, died Monday (July 7, 1997) at Stewartville Care Center where she had resided 1 years.
Emily Gretchen Elliker was born March 25, 1906, in Marengo, Iowa, grew up there and graduated from Marengo High School. After graduating from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, she taught in several Iowa County rural schools until her marriage. On Feb. 22, 1934, she married Lloyd W. Bettin in Odebolt, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa until 1951 and then near Le Roy until 1966 when they retired and moved to Stewartville. Mrs. Bettin was a former member of the Le Roy Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carma (Mrs. George) Lazarus of Oklahoma City and Mollie (Mrs. James) Bustad of Taopi; a son, Samuel of Racine; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. An infant son and two brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and until time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
