Daniel passed away at Veterans Memorial Hospital with his daughters by his side. He was born to Daniel Clark Purkiss and Florence Cole, grew up in Lexington and attended business college in Mitchell, S.D. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, in England and France, and was awarded the Purple Heart for Combat Wounded in 1945. In 1943, he met Shy while stationed in Sioux Falls, SD, and Shy followed him to Kearns Air Force Base in Utah, where Dan had been sent before going overseas. They were married in Salt Lake City on June 26, 1943. After the war, Dan worked at Pontiac Motor Co. in Detroit, but only for one day, because the workers went out on strike his first day at work. They moved to Mitchell, where he was an accountant for a car dealership. He moved to Carpinteria, CA, in 1957, where he lived until 1968, when he went to work for Aerojet at the INEL as a property manager. He retired in 1982. Dan was a member of Calvary Chapel. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He taught swimming lessons for children at the Youth Men's Christian Association. He was a member of the Elks Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Dan always had a happy smile, a joke or a story to tell about his many adventures in life. He will be missed by many. He loved fishing, dancing to the big bands with his wife and daughters, golfing, camping, crossword puzzles and telling about his memories of WWII and pranks that he and his brothers did as young boys growing up. He is survived by his son, Donald (Lucy) Purkiss of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Charlotte (J.C.) Colvin of Idaho Falls, Catherine Purkiss of Bremerton, Wash., and Christina (Dan) Lenihan of Casper, Wyo.; grandchildren, Gina (Jim) Stump of Idaho Falls, Paul (Gina) Pomeroy of Boise, Daniel Clark (Darlene) Purkiss IV of Idaho Falls, Rachelle Quinn of Pocatello, Joseph Lenihan and Frank Lenihan both of Casper, and Lauren Purkiss of San Antonio; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded by brothers Keith and Dwayne.
