Death of Hon. M. D. Blakey.
One of Monroe county's best citizens, M. D. Blakey past peacefully away on Monday morning. His death sad as it is to his bereaved family and friends, was not wholly unexpected, as his broken and declining state of health for the past year but too plainly told the story of approaching dissolution. He accepted all with christian fortitude and was sustained by an unfaltering faith in the Master whom he devoutly served. Deceased was a native of Virginia, born in Madison county, March 28th, 1822; and was educated in his native county, where he afterwards taught school for several years. He came to Missouri in 1844, and located at Clinton, in Monroe county, where he engaged in merchandizing. From there he moved to Paris and from there to the farm near Granville where he died. Mr. Blakey was a public spirited and popular citizen; several years ago he was elected to the legislature by his fellow citizens, and made one of the bet representatives the county ever had.
