Carl John Opp Sr., 65, of Milan, died April 16, 1994 at 12:25 p.m. He was born March 13, 1929 in Mt. Olive, Illinois, the son of Pearl Elizabeth and Arthur Gottlieb Opp Sr. June 22, 1963, he married Helen Martinez; she survives. Mr. Opp graduated from Milan High School in 1948 and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He had been employed by Semi Truck Lines, Wabash Railroad, and was an employee of Milan Post Office for 41 years. Mr. Opp, a lifetime member of the American Legion, Milan Post 268, was also a member of Milan Moose Lodge No. 323; local representative of National Rural Letter Carriers Association; president of Letter Carriers; and a safety officer for 36 years. Besides his wife Helen, he is survived by one son, Carl John Opp Jr., two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Glenda) Streufert of California and Mrs. Irving (Helen) Tormal of Alaska, and two brothers, Arthur G. Opp Jr. of Tennessee and Francis L. Opp of Texas. Memorial services were held at Marble Memorial Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
