Sister Mary Ann Carrier, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 81, died on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse, Wis.

Sister Mary Ann was born on Sept. 1, 1929, to Lewis and Hilda (Felder) Carrier in Guttenberg, Iowa. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1947 and made profession of vows in 1950. Entering the field of education, Sister Mary Ann served as an elementary teacher for ten years and high school teacher for twenty-one years in Iowa, Utah, and Wisconsin, including 12 years at Bellevue, Iowa. In 1982 she moved back to her hometown to live with her mother and became a substitute at the Jr. High and Guttenberg High School until 1990. Since that time Sister Mary Ann has served as a math/science tutor at the high school and helped with the family business-Carrier's Ice Cream Shop.

Sister Mary Ann is survived by her Franciscan Community; two sisters, Laura Heying, Dubuque, Iowa, and Winnie Fossbinder, Guttenberg; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Carrier, Guttenberg; a brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law; and nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jerome; and her sister, Patricia.

Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, at St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Guttenberg on Saturday, Dec. 11. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
