Enlisted 13 Aug 1862 (credited to Mendon, VT), mustered as Pvt. in Co. B 2nd Vermont Infantry 15 Sep 1862, wounded at Marye's Heights 3 May 1863, promoted to Sgt. 22 Aug 1864, promoted to 1st Sgt. 26 Dec 1864, commissioned 2nd Lt. 7 Jun 1865, mustered out as 1st Sgt. 19 Jun 1865.

From the Rutland Daily Herald, April 6, 1926:
The body of Marcus E. Tenney, 81, formerly of Mendon, who died early yesterday morning at the Vermont Soldiers home in Bennington, and whose funeral service was held yesterday at the institution, was placed in the vault at Evergreen cemetery here yesterday afternoon. Mr. Tenney is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Mr. Tenney was a member of Co. B., Second Vermont regiment of the Civil war, having been commissioned a second lieutenant.
