Lucinda Sage was the first of four children born to George Sage and Harriet Edwards Sage. She married Amasa Standish Fanning on March 29, 1827 in Newington, Hartford County, Connecticut. They later relocated to Portage County, Ohio where their only child, Derostus Neville Fanning, was born in Palmyra in 1838. From Palmyra the family relocated to Freedom Township in Portage County where lived Lucinda's brother Roswell and, for a time, her sister Lucretia Sage Hawley. After the death of Amasa Fanning in 1859, Lucinda continued to live in Freedom Township, Ohio for another ten years. In 1869 she sold her property and relocated to Berrien Springs, Michigan to live at the residence of her sister and brother-in-law Lucretia and Harvey Hawley.

The Hawleys preceded Lucinda in death and are buried at the Hinman Cemetery in Lake Township, Berrien County, Michigan. She then made her residence at the home of her nephew Dwight Sage. Lucinda Sage Fanning died on July 28. 1874 and was reported to have been buried on the Hawley property in August 1874, according to "History of the Fanning Family" by Walter Frederic Brooks.
