Mrs Ruth Taylor, 88, widow of George Street Taylor of the Mercer Community, died today at 2 AM in the home of her daughter, Mrs WJ Pope of Bruceton, after an illness of several months.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3:30 PM from Beech Grove Baptist Church with Rev AL Bishop officiating. Burial with Smith Funeral Home in charge, will be in Maple Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, near Mercer.

Her body will be at the funeral home until 9 AM Tuesday and at that time will be carried to her home in Mercer to remain until the funeral hour.

Mrs Taylor was born August 14, 1877 in Magee, MS, daughter of the late John W and Sarah C Magee Derryberry. She moved with her family to the Mercer Community when she was four years of age and she continued to make her home there, until moving to Bruceton this past July.

Mrs Taylor was a charter member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and had been a very active worker in all the organizations of the church until health failed. She was a member of the Woman's Missionary Union and of the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class.

Her husband, George Street Taylor, whom she married Dec 20, 1903 in Madison County, TN, preceded her in death in 1957.

Survivors include, five sons, CW Taylor, WE Taylor, EV Taylor and GF Taylor all of Memphis and JR Taylor of Dallas, TX; three daughters, Mrs Larry Potent of Memphis, Mrs Ollie Yelverton of Paducah, KY and Mrs WJ Pope of Bruceton; a sister, Mrs WL Siler of Jackson; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
