Charles was the son of emigrants Carl Heinrich Baum (Charles) and wife Margarethe Marie Masch (Maggie). Charles and Maggie emigrated from Buer, Germany Sep 5th 1864.

Charles and brother Andrew relocated to Lucas County Ohio in 1890's.

Charles 1st married Della Martha Lahr. They had a daughter Edna.
Charles 2nd married Minnie Plepp Haines in 1911. Minnie had a daughter. Alice Haines, by her first husband. Charles married Minnie Plepp a second time in 1918, (appears they had divorced in 1912) Charles and Minnie had two sons, Charles and Earl.

At age 40 Charles was tall, slender with blue eyes and dk brown hair. He worked in the trades as structural iron/steel worker
