Kassie Morrison was a pure bred "red" German Shepard, born June 5, 2000, to a breeder in Chicago Heights, Illinois. After eight weeks, she came to her new home. She was trained and used as a guard dog at Don & Sue Morrison's home in Monee, Illinois. She was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed. She bonded most closely with Don and, while Don was home, never left his side. She always stood between Don and the other people she knew, even his sons, not quite trusting anyone who approached Don. She would sit at the doorway of Don's bedroom and growl at anybody who tried to come in the bedroom, even his wife. If she saw his truck pull in the driveway, or heard him open the garage door, she would be waiting at the door to greet him. She was Don's constant companion while she was living. On January 30th, 2011, she survived an emergency operation to remove a growth on her spleen that had burst causing internal bleeding. As it turned out, the growth had been cancerous so she was "seeded" with cancer cells. After surviving the operation, she was given two months to two years to live, so she was in her "bonus" days. She recovered well from the surgery, but only lived for about three months after the operation. She died in Don's arms at 3:30 am on Friday the 13th, May of 2011. She was a treasure, constant companion, and much more then just a beloved "pet." She was "family."
