Mrs. Lottie Happel Dead. Lottie Jane Brown, daughter of Barney and Lucy Brown was born February 28, 1873, at English, Crawford County, Indiana and died on April 25, 1926. When only eight years old, she moved with her parents to Atchison County, Kansas and located on a farm north of Effingham. Eight years later, the family moved to Cheyenne County until the spring of 1896, she moved with her husband to Illinois. In 1904, the family returned to Kansas to a farm north of Effingham and a few years ago she moved to the home where she lived until her death.
On November 10, 1891 she was united in marriage to Jost Happel at Jaqua, Kans. To this union were born: Herbert, Roy and Floyd, all of Effingham, survive their mother. She is survived also by one brother Andrew Brown of Oakley, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Patton, of Waynoka, Okla; Mrs. Marian Pratt, of Muscotah, Kans.; Mrs. Willis Haag, of Kirwin, Kans.; three grandchildren; her aged mother, Mrs. Lucy Brown of Oakley, and other more distant relatives.
On April 1, 1923, she united with the Presbyterian church. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and was always interested in the welfare of the community.
Funeral services were held at the Effingham Presbyterian church, with interment in the Effingham cemetery, with Masons in charge of the services at the grave.
