Josephus Smith, aged 77, well known resident of East End, Waynesburg, and a former shingle maker, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at his home, 301 Bridge street, from paralysis and a complications of ailments. He had been ill for more than a year.

A son of the late William and Nancy Renner Smith, he was born July 10, 1859 at Garards Fort and was the last member of his family. For several years he resided at Claylick in Center Township, later moving to Waynesburg where he has resided for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose Davis Smith, and two daughters, Mrs. Ewing (Goldie) Teter, of New York City, and Mrs. Ewing (Marie) Crayne, of Lippencott; and by seven grandchildren. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Waynesburg.
