Floyd has several nicknames through the years. "Flossie" and "Meat Grease" the latter for his slicked down hair. He had one teacher that pronounced his name as Fluid. He went to high school through the age of 21. He would go to school during football season and as soon as the season was over, He would go to work for the saw mill. Floyd was not real fond of Math so he took "History of Mankind" for 4 or 5 years. Floyd worked for the Railway Express Agency for many years. He had to move to different locations all the time. On different routes for the REA his family lived in New Orleans twice, Leesville, Homer, Shreveport: all in Louisiana. He also lived in Port Arthur and Corsicana in Texas. Several years after moving to DeRidder in 1954, he switched jobs to Foremost Milk Co. as a route man. He later worked as manager for Caldwell Lumber company. Later he worked for Forshee's Grocery Store.

DeRidder -- Funeral for Floyd L. Martin, 62, will be today at Wesley Methodist Church with burial in Beauregard Cemetery under the direction of Beauregard Funeral Home.

He died Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Beauregard Memorial Hospital.

A native of Leesville, La. he was a retired Railway Express employee.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Martin of DeRidder; four sons, Lanny Martin of Texas City, Richard Martin of Baton Rouge, Stuart Martin of DeRidder, and Walter Martin of Gary Indiana; three sisters, Jessie Lea Alley of Sulphur, Grace Harrell of Kenner, and Rose Getty of Mansfield; four brothers, Joseph E. Martin Jr. of Dallas, Howard G. Martin of Algiers, George Raymond Martin of Little Rock and Lynn Martin of Leesville; and eight grandchildren.
