Billy Gene Prewitt, 70, passed away at his home in Holcomb on May 15, 2011.

Billy was born on June 28, 1940, in Choctaw County to Rufus and Opal Walker Prewitt. He married his lifelong companion Leresa Scallions on May 5, 1961. They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Bill was retired from Pennaco Hosiery and was a member of Elliott Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Salley officiating. Interment will follow in Holcomb Cemetery.

Bill is survived by his wife, Leresa; his sons, Ricky (Gale) Prewitt of Holcomb and Jerry (Sharon) Prewitt of Grenada; five grandchildren, John Terry (Kristy) Prewitt of Grenada, Angel (Keith) Rhodes of Holcomb, Ashley (Richard) Beck of Holcomb, Jeremy Prewitt of Grenada, and Britney Parkey of Grenada; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher Rhodes and J. D. Beck of Holcomb, Bailey Grace Prewitt and Haleigh Parkey of Grenada; brothers, Fred Prewitt of Holcomb and Larry Prewitt of Wilmington, N.C.; and sisters, Dorothy Fowler of Bradenton, Fla., and Edie Villarrubia of New Orleans.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Opal Walker Prewitt; sisters, Shirley Nelson and Katie Haliburton; and brothers, R. C. and Roy Prewitt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Garner-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
