J N Barksdale enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 27 May 1863 at Saint Marks. He was mustered as a Private in Company E, 1st Battalion Florida Infantry (Hopkins). This company and regiment later consolidated with Company B, 10th Florida Infantry. This is where his compiled military service record is listed under J N Barksdale. He was listed as admitted to General Hospital in Savannah, Georgia on 29 August 1863 where he died on 24 September 1863. There is no other Barksdale listed in the CMSR for the State of Florida.

(1st Name, link to father, and following info by Sons of Liberty) This soldier is shown as sick at hospital on Jul/Aug 1863 muster rolls. He died 24 September 1863 in a Savannah, Georgia Hospital. His brother, Edwin Jasper Barksdale, stated that he died after being wounded in battle and is the son of William Barksdalte and Nancy Long.
