She was born to parents Nicholas and Marie Simmons Oct. 28, 1899 and resided in Otter Tail county and Bluffton, Minnesota. She later attended the Bluffton public schools.
She was united in marriage to Hilarius Schmitz at Bluffton
April 5, 1921. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Circle 9 at St Hubert's Catholic church of Blue Grass for 40 years. She moved to Wadena in 1963 and became a member of St Ann's church.
She is survived by fourteen children, namely Rose Roche of Huntersville, Cecilia Whedon, Portland, Ore., Christine Wingjum, and Katherine Hanninen, both of Tacoma, Wash., Frances Monroe, Sebeka, Julia Van Roekel, Verndale, Ione Sudenga, Spokane, Wash., Susan Ellingworth, New York Mills, Philip Schmitz, Fon Du Lac, Wis., Frank Schmitz, Wadena, Benedict Schmitz, Isanti, Minn., Joseph Schmitz, Cannon Falls, Lawrence Schmitz, Minneapolis and Peter Schmitz of Cedar Rapids, Ia. Also surviving are 47 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Sisters surviving included Mary Edholm of Staples, Fronie Roberts of Perham, Lena Ruikka, New Your Mills and Tracy of Osage.
Those coming for the funeral from a distance were of Wisconsin, Cedar Rapids, Ia., Minneapolis, Perham, New York Mills, Huntersville, Sebeka and Staples.
Preceding her were her parents her husband and one son, William.
A Requiem Mass will be offered by Father A. Kraemer at St Ann's Catholic church in Wadena at 10 a.m. today and interment will be in the St. Hubert cemetery at Bule Grass.
