Steven G. Mirabal passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Albuquerque following a long illness. He is survived by his brother, Felipe R. Mirabal of Albuquerque. Steven was preceded in death by his father, Albert M. Mirabal in 2006; his mother, Josephine Tomero Telles in 2010, and his infant sister, Judy Marie Mirabal in 1959. Steve was born on July 30, 1952 at Holloman Air Force Base at Alamogordo, New Mexico. His paternal grandparents were Flavio G. Mirabal and Angelita McKinley. His maternal grandparents were Filiberto Romero and Angelita Telles Baca and his mother's stepfather, Juan Bautista Baca. His maternal great-grandmother, Rosa Sandoval y Rorres de Telles lived with his family for several years. His padrinos were his maternal uncle, Juan Bautista Baca II and his mother's best friend, Feliz Gutierrez (White).. His padrino at confermation was his maternal uncle, Pablo Arturo Baca.

Steven's paternal family has lived in New Mexico for nine generations. Born in Antequera, Andalucia, Spain, his ancestor, Don Carlos Jose Perez de Mirabal arrived with his brother, a Franciscan friar, Don Fray Juan Jose Perez de Mirabal in the 1720s. Many of Steve's ancestors setteled the rio Abajo area of New Mexico and were founders of Albuquerque in 1706. Steve spent his childhood in Carrizozo, NM and attended Santa Rita Catholic School. He moved with his family to Los Griegos in the North Valley of Albuquerque in 1961. He graduated from Valley High School in 1970 and from the Technical Vocational Institute. He married Faye Louise Hunter the daughter of Charles Hunter and Doris Hickson in 1974. They were divorced in 1984. He was employed as a bookkeeper, a miner, in road construction and customer service and lived in several towns in New Mexico. He was a member of the choir at St. Therese Church and of the Archdiocesan City-wide Choir.
