DAVENPORT — Celebration of life services for Virginia K. Smith, 67, of Davenport, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 14th and Brady Streets, Davenport. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road.
Virginia was born in 1944 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Fern and Milo Stansky. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1962, and also attended Iowa City Community College. Virginia and Gary united in marriage on January 25, 1964. She and Gary lived and raised their family in Davenport, Iowa. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, antiques, traveling and volunteering for many years at St. John's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed riding on long bike rides with her family and friends. Virginia adored and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She retired from Mel Foster Insurance.
Virginia is survived by her faithful and loving spouse, Gary Smith of Davenport and their children, Rod (Tera) Smith of Raymond, Iowa, and Dean (Brenda) Smith of Bettendorf, Iowa. Virginia was blessed and loved by her grandchildren, Nicole, Kathleen, Michael, Kayla, Brittnee, Courtney and Erica, and one great-grandson, Peyton Michael.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Marvin Stransky.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bettendorf Health Care Center for the compassion given to Virginia for many years. Family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to St. John's United Methodist Church.
